One of the ways yoga practitioners calm and refine their minds is to focus on a mantra, powerful ancient syllables that nourish, energize, and bring peace to the mind. One of these ancient mantras is, "Om Namah Shivaya," which can be translated as, "I honor the great Lord that exists within everything, including myself." When I lived in an ashram, we would often chant Om Namah Shivaya with Baba Muktananda in the same tune I sing in this five-minute video.

Video Adjunct:

My life became quite a scripture when I began to study with Baba Muktananda on the path he created to teach, refine, empower, and uplift those who came for spiritual guidance. One of the most precious experiences for me was to study the wisdom of ancient India while chanting Shri Guru Gita every morning. I felt as though I probably had some resonance with the culture, through past lifetimes or other metaphysical connections, and felt that as I sang these precious syllables, my very body, mind, and soul became an expression of scripture. The self-respect that came with these experiences are what allowed me to subsequently write books and create this course. Watch an eight-minute recitiation of the Shri Guru Gita chant to taste the scripture in your own mind and life.
